According to a recent comment by United States Vice President Mike Pence, the Polish Government has decided not to proceed with a national digital services tax.
During a joint press conference in Warsaw with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Pence said that the US is “deeply grateful that you rejected proposals for a digital service tax, which would have hampered trade between our two nations.”
Although Poland’s deputy finance minister reportedly said earlier this year that the Government would soon adopt legislation for a digital services tax, no formal proposals have been submitted to parliament.
In February 2019, the Governments of France and Poland signed a declaration committing them to seek interim solutions to the tax challenges associated with the digital economy. This declaration called for the adoption, by the end of March 2019, of an EU Directive on the taxation of digital advertising services. However, member states were unable to reach an agreement on the proposals and EU member states have instead considered imposing digital taxes unilaterally.
